Explore Topsail Island
Topsail Island is a 26-mile-long barrier island approximately 25 minutes north of Wilmington and 25 minutes south of Jacksonville. The island is located in both Onslow and Pender counties and consists of three towns, North Topsail Beach, Surf City and Topsail Beach. The three mainland towns of Hampstead, Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge complete the Greater Topsail Area.
Two bridges allow access onto the island-a swing bridge in Surf City and a high-rise bridge connecting Sneads Ferry to North Topsail Beach. A main road runs parallel to the ocean along the length of the island and changes names depending on which section of the island you are currently in. Side streets running from the ocean to the sound or Intra-Coastal Waterway also provide routes to different parts of the island. There is only one traffic light on the whole island strand.
Topsail's summer population swells up to about 60,000 depending on the time of summer, as compared to the 5,500 year-round residents. The convenient location between the cities of Jacksonville and Wilmington makes Topsail a desirable place to live. Residents here enjoy a relatively inexpensive, quiet lifestyle on the beach, and vacationers enjoy the serenity of this family-orientated destination.
Topsail Island has meant paradise to generations of families for its beautiful, family-friendly beaches and waterways. Topsail Island offers a multitude of attractions that draw people from any walk of life. The historic legacy of the area manifests itself in the museum, pirate heritage, old missile towers, and other structures that speak of days gone by. However, there is little doubt that the proximity to the sea lends a distinct resort quality to this culturally vibrant region.

The bridge generally opens on the hour to allow boats through and provides a prime vantage point to view Topsail Sound.
Topsail Beach NC
Topsail Beach, NC is small family-oriented seaside town with pristine stretches of sandy beaches and is the smallest of the three Topsail Island cities. It is located on the southern tip of the island with only about 500 full time residents and many new and returning visitors. Topsail Beach ordinances prohibit high-rise development on this part of Topsail Island leaving miles of natural, untouched seashores to stroll from right outside your Topsail Beach vacation rental.
This natural state also makes Topsail beach the perfect place for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Dedicated to protecting sea turtles, the center was the first of its kind to open in North Carolina. Visiting hours are available during the summer with a gift shop for souvenirs.
The Missiles and More Museum is another place visitors to Topsail beach will want to check out. It was the navy that first claimed Topsail Island for top secret missile tests during the 1940s and you can learn about the island's military history at museum. Both attractions are convenient to visit while staying in one of our Topsail Beach rentals.
North Topsail Beach NC
North Topsail Beach is named after its location at the far north end of the island and is slightly more secluded than the other two cities on Topsail Island, Surf City and Topsail Beach. North Topsail Beach was previously separated from the rest of Topsail Island by Stump Inlet. But time and weather have filled the gap uniting the town and making it more accessible to vacationers.
Our North Topsail Beach vacation rentals are a favorite among kayakers as Topsail Island is surrounded by the backwaters of Topsail Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway, offering some of the most beautiful tidal creeks, wetlands and salt marshes anywhere, all accessible from North Topsail.
